Where beam moving heads do pencil-thin sweeping rays, wash moving heads do wide colour floods. For atmospheric coverage of a wider space — villa terrace, pool deck, beach — washes are the right choice over beams.
Pairs well with the 4× LED PAR uplight set. Washes do moving colour, PARs do static uplights against walls and palms — most villa rigs end up running both, because a wash pointed at a wall wastes the pan and tilt you paid for.
Worth adding the Antari Z-350 Fazer too: the 1°-40° zoom is the selling point here, and at the narrow end you only see the shaft of colour if there’s haze in the air.
When something else is better
- You want tight sweeping beams, not colour floods — that’s the beam fixtures. The Stairville MH-100 pair is the cheap 8° option that runs sound-active with no controller; the Cameo MOVO BEAM Z 100 pair is brighter and zooms 4°-30°.
- You just want walls and plants lit in colour and nothing moving — the LED PARs above do that for less, and the battery wireless uplighters do it with no cable runs at all.
- Small indoor room — a pair of 8.2kg moving heads is a lot of fixture for a living room. Two LED PARs and a laser will read better in the space.
