Headcount is really distance

Twenty around a dinner table is one small speaker — the JBL EON ONE Compact at €65/day (8kg, 12h swappable battery) or the Bose S1 Pro+ at €85/day (7.2kg, 11h). Twenty spread down thirty metres of terrace wants a column: the LD Maui 5 GO (€90/day, 800W peak) throws wide instead of blasting whoever stands nearest. Add walls and it all goes further; outdoors nothing reflects.

Past sixty, the crowd is the noise

Sixty talking guests and wind off the water make their own noise floor, and a 150W box vanishes into it — that is where a Soundboks Gen 4 (126 dB max SPL, IP65) earns its price. Battery costs decibels too: the JBL EON ONE MK2 is rated 123 dB on mains, 119 dB on battery. Past ~150 outdoors it is mains tops or nothing. Longer comparison in the Bose vs PartyBox vs Soundboks writeup.

Battery vs mains

No power? No problem.

Battery

Best for beaches, yacht decks and villa terraces with no reliable socket — or when you just want zero cabling. Runs all day on a charge, pairs over Bluetooth, carries anywhere.

Mains

Best when you have power and a bigger crowd — more volume and headroom per euro. Powered tops plus a sub fill an open-air party that battery speakers can’t.

The venue usually decides, not you

A villa terrace has one outdoor socket, on the house wall, thirty metres from where the dance floor ends up. A charter yacht will not let you draw the boat’s mains. A beach has nothing. Mains gets ruled out before volume is discussed — see the yacht sound system guide and the Hvar villa writeup.

Bringing the socket with you

Want a mains rig where there is no mains? An EcoFlow Delta 2 Max (€95/day) is 2048Wh and 2400W of AC across six sockets — a plug you put where the speakers are. Not free volume: the bigger the rig, the shorter the night. Tell us the hours and we will say whether it stretches.

Battery speakers

Mains PA & subs

For the bigger, louder, mains-powered jobs.

Free volume

Get the tops off the floor

A speaker on the ground fires into the first row of legs. Mids and highs are directional and do not bend around people, so the front gets blasted while the back hears mush. Lift the box until the tweeter is at ear height and it covers more depth at a lower setting — also how you stay the right side of an 11pm curfew. The Gravity SP 5212 pair is €25/day: tripod, telescoping to 195cm, 50kg per stand, standard 35mm pole. The Mackie Thump 215 pair already ships with a set, and columns need none of it — a Bose L1 Pro16 is its own vertical array, 180° across and 124 dB max SPL.

Be honest about this

When you need a sub

Rent one if

There is a real dance floor, a DJ set rather than a playlist, mains within reach of it, and a crowd past sixty. A sub does one job — it puts back the bottom octave 15-inch tops roll off. The RCF SUB 705-AS MK3 is €175/day: 15-inch active, 1400W peak, crossover and presets built in. Bringing decks? Sizing is on the DJ equipment rental page.

Skip it if

It is speeches, dinner or background music — a sub adds nothing you want and plenty the neighbours do not. Skip it on a beach, where low end walks off across open sand. Check access first, too: the RCF is about 28kg, a two-person carry and an argument on a fort staircase. Weddings split down this line — see the wedding sound page.

Add microphones

For speeches, toasts and announcements — wireless or wired.

Before you book

What you get. What you don’t.

This is dry hire. The system arrives cabled, labelled and tested, we show whoever is running it which plug goes where, and we come back for it — how it works covers the money side. What you do not get is an engineer: nobody of ours stands behind a mixer for your night, we do not rig, fly or stage anything, and we do not mix a band. Nor are we last-minute — order-in items want about five days, and delivery outside Split three to five on top. Need crew? Hire a production company for the people and rent the boxes from us.

FAQ

Speaker & PA rental — common questions

How loud a system do I need?

Rough rule: a single battery speaker covers up to ~20 people, a Soundboks or compact PA handles 20–60, and a pair of powered tops with a sub covers 60–150 in the open air. Tell us the headcount and venue and we will size it for you.

Battery or mains — which should I pick?

Battery if there is no reliable power (beach, yacht deck, remote villa terrace) or you want zero cabling. Mains if you have sockets and need more volume per euro for a bigger crowd. Most villa parties run battery; bigger events run mains.

Do the speakers come with everything to run them?

Yes — every system ships plug-and-play: speaker, charger/cables (labelled), stands where relevant, and Bluetooth or cabled input. If you add a mic or controller we cable it ready. Setup is 5–10 minutes.

Can you deliver to a yacht, beach or villa?

Yes. We deliver up and down the coast — Split, Hvar, Pag/Zrće, Šibenik/Tisno, Zadar, Dubrovnik and Istria — or you can pick up free from our Split depot. Delivery fees are listed per zone, no surprises.

Is there a deposit?

A refundable damage hold is charged with the rental and returned within 3 business days once the gear comes back working. We only ever charge the actual cost of any repair — never more.

Do I actually need a subwoofer?

Only with a real dance floor, mains power near it and a crowd past sixty. Speeches, dinner and background music need none of it. The RCF sub is a 28kg two-person carry, so a staircase or a boat answers the question for you.

Does indoors or outdoors change what I need?

A lot. Indoors the walls reflect sound back and a small speaker sounds bigger than it is. Outdoors nothing reflects and the same box sounds thin at the back. Room to lawn usually means a step up in speaker, not in headcount.

How far ahead should I book a PA?

Order-in items carry roughly a 5-day lead time and delivery outside Split wants 3-5 days on top. Depot-stocked battery speakers move faster. Book once the date and venue are fixed.

Need sound sorted?

Tell us the headcount, dates and where it’s going — we’ll spec the right system and deliver it plug-and-play.
