The cheapest decent controller money can rent. Runs off any phone or laptop via USB-C — no laptop required if you’ve got an iPad and djay Pro AI installed. Two channels, RCA out to any speaker, fits in a backpack.
Best for villa pre-drinks where someone wants to “have a go” at DJing without being a DJ. Plug in, hit autosync, done.
When something else is better
Two channels and a 1.2kg plastic body is exactly the right amount of controller for a casual night, and exactly the wrong amount for anything more:
- Someone in the group actually DJs — go to the Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 at minimum, or the four-channel DDJ-FLX6-GT if two of them want to trade back-to-back.
- No laptop and no phone you’re willing to tie up all night — this one needs a device to run on. The Denon Prime Go+ is standalone with a 7-inch touchscreen, and runs ~4 hours off its own battery, which also solves the yacht and beach case where there’s no socket for the booth.
- You want it to look like a booth — the FLX2’s output is RCA and 3.5mm, so it’s built to sit on a table next to a battery speaker. Anything more presentable starts at the Headliner Indio DJ booth and a controller with XLR out.
